Artisan Spotlight: Betsy Youngquist

Betsy Youngquist’s mixed media beadwork reflects a fascination with the intersection of humans, animals, and mythology. Stemming from a life-long love of all creatures great and small, Betsy’s work weaves together the human and animal spirit through a surrealistic lens.

Over the past dozen years, Youngquist has exhibited her work at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Smithsonian Craft Show in Washington, D.C., the VIDA Museum in Borgholm, Sweden and most recently, Betsy and Scott completed an installation project for the Racine Art Museum in Racine, WI.

Wow these are so detailed with so many pretty little beads. I don’t think it would ever have occured to me to do something like this, I just put the odd bead in a bezel with collage or all crystals if working with clay. I love seeing what different artists create.

Her Etsy shop is amazing — I’ve done some mosaic work and it is soooo time consuming, but her results are obviously well worth all the effort. Thanks for sharing this unique work, I might never have been exposed to it!
