      Hello Lee,
      We’ve updated the PDF to address this as well, but Stephanie says, “They were semiprecious stone beads that I had, and I started with some that had broken when I tried to use a bead reamer on them. My favorite stone resource is Beads Direct, out of North Carolina. Leslie and Mary are really wonderful”

    Hi–Sorry I just saw this. I usually use trial and error–the softer the stone, the better, though ideally you would use stones that were already broken. Amethyst, citrine, and carnelian work really well.
