2017 Spring Nunn Design Art Retreat was a load of fun! I think fun was had by all during the 3-day retreat.
This is the bracelet we created.
Thursday we met in the warehouse and went over the project. This bracelet is a “charm sampler” of over 15 different techniques that the students would be learning Friday and Saturday. Each student was encouraged to make the bracelet uniquely their own, so there were stations with “tables of decisions” around the warehouse. Each station helped them think about the design and feel of the bracelet. Making a lot of these decisions up front helped the students move through many techniques in a short period of time. Time was spent making decisions, eating snacks and then shopping!
I’m sad that I don’t have everyone’s bracelet to show, but here are some of the pieces the students created.
Artist in Residency – Christi Friesen
This year we had Christi Friesen join us for an artist in residency during our retreat. It was so much fun for all of the students to be able to watch her work and learn from her. A lot of great tutorials will be coming out of this retreat, so we look forward to sharing some polymer clay projects that Christi is working on with you.
Here is what some of our students said about the class:
“I had a wonderful time, thank you. The instruction was top notch, the food and Port Townsend were beyond expectations. I think the project was good for learning the different techniques; you could not have done a better job, really.”
“I have taken lots of classes over the years from lampwork artists, wire-working artists, and colorists, and I truly feel my experience at the NDAR was right up there at the top! I gleaned so many very useful tips and techniques, gained a better working knowledge of the products used in the class, and totally enjoyed the company of my fellow attendees. Becky’s attention to detail, and clear explanations of the techniques and the whys and how’s of them were extensive and “meaty”. The addition of Christi Freisen was also a rich experience!”
“Going to the October 2017 Nunn Design Retreat should have been on my bucket list. It ranks up near the top as one of my life’s best experiences (and I turned 70 in April)
If you are looking for the most competent instructors around, you have found the right place at the Nunn Design Retreat. Becky is so thorough, detailed minded, patient, more than knowledgeable, and even has a funny side.
This retreat was well-planned and perfection hour by hour. I came home ready to practice some of the many techniques taught by this group with the knowledge needed to be successful.
Did I mention we had lots of time to shop the warehouse and buy things we couldn’t live without. It was nice seeing and touching everything before buying. Also I met “new” friends who were newbies as well as second-timers. By the time I left Port Townsend they were my “old” friends. Thanks all for a wonderful retreat.”
