For more than 25 years I have been a mixed-media artist and a Reiki Master Teacher, and I’ve always been aware that the energy I bring to my creative work is the energy I imbue into it.
Yes, the materials and the techniques we use to create our work are the tangibles. The beads, components, wire, stringing material, findings are the physical part of our work. How well we navigate the techniques is the tangible experiences of being a maker.
What’s more elusive is the inherent artistry we bring to our work. How we elicit metaphors, share stories and provoke emotions within our pieces is part of the ethereal dance we do.
I often contemplate the state of my thoughts, how I’m navigating my own emotions and if I’m able to bring embodied presence to myself when I create.
Creation energy is sacred. It’s the spark of something new coming into existence.
No matter how many times we’ve worked a design, the present moment is what’s fresh and exciting. Our presence in the moment is the real, lived mysticism that I believe speaks to the heart of why we create.
There’s magic that occurs when we show up to our creative work with presence and reverence—a kind of alchemy that goes beyond technique or skill.
Time shifts; our hands seem to know things our minds don’t.
The piece itself becomes a collaborator, guiding us anew. And somehow, what we create carries forward an energy, a transmission, that others can feel even if they can’t name it.
I’m curious about this ripple effect. How does the intentional presence we bring to our bench translate into the energy someone feels when they clasp a necklace or slip on a bracelet?
I’m curious about how we recognize this experience, how we cultivate it more consistently, and how we honor it when it happens.
Our creations carry forward whatever we’ve woven into them. They become a lived, embodied experience of soul.
