We love seeing how a new place can be reflected in an artist’s work. Lisa Rogers’ hand-painted charms have always carried a sense of place, turning small scenes and meaningful details into wearable keepsakes.
That sense of place is one of the reasons her work has stayed with us over the years. After her fairly recent move to Florida, it has been lovely to see new surroundings, colors, and experiences show up in what she creates!

We asked Lisa to share more about how this move has been shaping her work.
You’ve moved! How has that been feeling – for you and your work?
Lisa: It has been such a breath of fresh air! I have lived in the Northern US my entire life, between NY, ME, WA and NH. This was a big move for me! While I will miss certain aspects of New England very much, I have dived headfirst into living in Florida. The climate, the new and distinct flora and fauna, and the beautiful color of the ocean here have all impacted me.
Every day I discover something new, be it a colorful pink bird such as the roseate spoonbill, or the sweet manatees that I affectionately call “chubmarines.”

Inspired by my local surroundings, I am now incorporating them into my work. Watch for miniature landscapes and seascapes, palm trees, and a more tropical vibe.

Has this moved shifted anything about how you’re approaching your work or your business?
Lisa: Oh, for sure! I am breaking out from my more subdued color palette and reaching for bolder colors. I have been inspired lately by some icons that make up “southern charm,” such as chinoiserie, glasses of sweet tea, a rocker on a porch, canning, pink buildings, and the flavors of southern cooking.
My studio here is taking on some really fun projects and I am collaborating with some wonderful shops. Some of my work is being converted to new mediums and I cannot wait to announce that launch! I am working on some new work for my shop, too.
I retired from my corporate job of 20 years and am now solely focused on my art. That has been incredibly liberating.
What are you noticing around you lately that’s starting to show up in your work? Like these new “southern charm” pieces?
Lisa: Palm trees everywhere! The color pink and different shades of blue than what we have up North.

What draws you to the subjects you choose to paint?
Lisa: I have visited and vacationed in parts of the Southeastern US many times and the subjects I am starting to paint are prolific here in Florida. I will be making some trips to other areas of the South to get even more inspiration. Think Charleston, New Orleans, Outer Banks, Savannah, and areas along the mighty Mississippi River. There is so much to explore in our own backyard.
What do you hope someone feels when they wear one of your painted charms?
Lisa: I want people to feel a connection somehow. I have had customers tell me that my work reminds them of a favorite memory or a beloved pet. They want to be reminded of their “happy place,” a phrase I adore for its pure joy. As complex as the world and our place in it is, I want people to quietly have one of my pieces nearby or on and feel a personal connection to something or someone. If my work can elicit that, then I have utilized and shared my gift well.

Thank you, Lisa, for taking the time to share with us again!
We have loved watching your work evolve and carry new surroundings into its stories.
