Epoxy Clay Ponytail Holder Tutorial

I’m totally crazy about these ponytail holders that I created using vintage buttons. Depending on the supplies that you have in your stash, each ponytail holder can be unique and one of a kind. Wearable pieces of art can even show up in your hair!

Epoxy Clay Ponytail Holder Tutorial:

Supplies Needed:

  • Crystal Clay Brown (cryclay-brown)
  • Rhinestone Chain 24pp – Antique Gold (rc24-gb)
  • Ponytail Holder – Antique Gold (pth-gb)
  • Vintage buttons
  • Black Elastic Ponytail Holder

Tools Needed:

  • Headpin

STEP 1:
Using Crystal Clay, follow the manufacturers instructions for safety. Pinch off two equal balls of Part A (the color) and Part B (the hardener). (You will want your combined Crystal Clay ball to be approximately ½ size of the vintage buttons you will be using).

STEP 2:
Knead the two equal size balls fully together until the clay is a consistent color and
not marbled. You have 60-90 minutes to work with the clay before it starts to harden. Put aside a small ball of kneaded clay to attach the ponytail holder finding in Step 6.

STEP 3:
Roll a large ball of kneaded clay and press into the base of one of the sides of the vintage buttons.

STEP 4:
Put the kneaded clay between the two vintage buttons and sandwich together (like an Oreo cookie). Press firmly, squeezing the clay out to the edges.

STEP 6:
To attach the ponytail holder, roll out two small balls of the Crystal Clay (set aside from Step 2). Attach each ball to the bottom platforms of the ponytail finding. With the black elastic ponytail holder in place, press the ponytail finding to the base of one of the vintage buttons. If any Crystal Clay squeezes out the sides, use a headpin to scrap away the excess.
