Pebeo Paints, Colorized Resin and Boho Style Jewelry! 12 New Projects to Create!

I think something people don’t understand about the Team at Nunn Design, is that they are not professional “jewelry artists.” All of the staff, including myself, have come from a variety of careers and backgrounds.

Team Nunn comes together quarterly to create. Everyone is encouraged (well…sometimes they are pushed) to try new things they have never done before. Often we will have new findings that the team will design inspirational pieces with and test out. We often become aware of products that would help the creative process be easier and better.

It is vulnerable to create. It is vulnerable to show your work. We feel that it is our duty to “be vulnerable” and to show our creative process. Shoot, it might give you permission to try something new too! And if we can make that process easier, we are “in!”

Here are the latest creations from our most recent Art Day here at Nunn Design. We hope that a project you see here will be inspiring and helpful in your creative process.

Beautiful Designs with Pebeo Paints!

Designer: Cheryl

Cheryl has really mastered the use of Nunn Design Resin with Pebeo Paints. The colors and patterns are beautiful! Didn’t they come out fantastic?

  • When asked, Cheryl said, “basically, I dripped some Pebeo Paints onto the Nunn Design Flat Tags and moved them around with a toothpick. Different types of paint provide totally different effect. For these pieces I used the Fantasy Prisme to create this honeycomb look.”

For this necklace, Cheryl applied stained glass Pebeo Paints on the base of a Nunn Design Metal Bead Organic Flat Small Circle and let it dry. Next she mixed Nunn Design Resin and applied a small amount over the dried Pebeo Paint (this creates a more translucent effect when the transfer image is applied). Cheryl then applied a Nunn Design transfer image from the Birds and Trees Transfer Sheets. Her final step was applying a couple drizzles of resin over the transfer sheet image creating a highly domed finish.

Metal Punching and Assembly

Designer: Haylee

I love the boho feel and contemporary style of these pieces by Nunn Design Team Member Haylee. It is always great to see how other makers use the Nunn Design Findings Collection.

In this piece, Haylee created a fun pattern of findings incorporating use of our fairly new Hinged Bails.

Designer: Christee

Our Small Circle Flat Metal Beads have a nice hole to fit Leather Cord through. Christee threaded the beads through with leather cord and then used Ribbon End Leather Connectors to finish, creating a nice boho pair of earrings!

Our Grande Circle Eclipse Flat Tags have a smallish hole, at 1.5mm, so Christee used a hole punch to make the holes bigger to fit our Small Thick Jumprings. Then she made a hole in the flat tag to fit an earring through as a beautiful design element. Neat, huh!

Designer: Heather

These earrings, by Heather, made use of our Eye Clasp in a new way. She bent them to loop around the Open Frame as well as to carry the Small Organic Drop as a dangling element!

Heather discovered how well our Half Circle Flat Tags fit inside a Wire Frame Circle, and she wire-wrapped them into place. Simple, yet elegant!

You don’t know how much I need to read that. Thank you so much. One of my biggest obstacles is myself. I don’t have an art background, even though I’ve always done arts and crafts and can get lost for hours doing them. But I feel like a fake trying to sell my jewelry without the “credentials”.

Thanks for the inspiration (both on the inside and outside).

I am curious about the first piece you show above (Cheryl’s). You kind of allude to it but I wasn’t sure – did she put resin over the top of the paints after they dried?

I’m glad that you found that statement helpful. It makes me sad to hear that people have bought into the belief that they are not “real” or “good enough” at their craft because of this reason or that. There is so much tied to ego that is so not helpful in the creative process.

You are right…you are the only one that can challenge your beliefs and choose to believe differently.

Cheryl did not use resin over the paints. I haven’t explored this technique, so I’m not an expert, but I did ask for a couple of Cheryl’s pieces to “bang around”. The paint didn’t chip and it felt very very durable. She has worn other pieces for a couple years and has not had any issues. I’m more inclined to want to put resin over the top, but Cheryl has chosen not to.
